September 11, 2001 marked a change in Laura’s personal life, and she decided to pursue a career wherein she could be of service to others experiencing life’s difficulties. Laura left the corporate world, and earned a master’s degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University, – and she now works with PSA as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
She is energetic, intelligent, engaging, and not involved with vague conceptualizations, – but can deal with issues on the street level – in a positive, constructive manner, with straight talk.
As program manager of outpatient treatment for Charlottesville/ Albemarle court system for several years, she treated individuals and families with substance abuse, and chemical dependence,legal issues, and/or coexisting emotional imbalances. She has also worked in private practice with individuals coping with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, self-injury, personality disorders and with trauma, PTSD, and other stress-related disorders.
Laura has recently received additional training for, and looks forward to working with, military personnel returning from combat. In addition, she offers NADA acupuncture, dialectical behavior therapy, and develops intervention strategies for substance abusers and their families.
Laura operates from a person-centered approach that all people have the innate ability to overcome life’s difficulties to live the best lives possible.
